From supporting breast cancer patients to funding crucial medical research, take a look at how ASDA's Tickled Pink campaign has made a difference.
I found out I had breast cancer two weeks before my wedding. During my year of surgery, chemo and radiotherapy I found it really helpful that I could talk over any question or anxiety I had with one of the nurses on the Breast Cancer Care Helpline. It’s comforting to know that the helpline is there for me whenever I need to talk to someone.
Your fantastic commitment over the past year has helped tens of thousands of people like Leila Rutty (pictured) receive dedicated and personal help through Breast Cancer Care’s emotional and practical support services. After her breast cancer diagnosis, Leila used our free and confidential helpline.
Staffed by experienced nurses and specially trained workers with a personal or professional experience of breast cancer, we are able to offer information and support on any aspect of breast cancer or breast health via our helpline.
In 2007 we took 18,000 calls and the number is expected to rise this year. The money you raise will help us to be there for more and more people affected by breast cancer.
Since 2005, when Breast Cancer Campaign became the second charity to benefit from ASDA's Tickled Pink support, over £3.8 million has been raised for the charity.
The charity’s mission is to beat breast cancer by funding innovative world-class research to understand how breast cancer develops, leading to improved diagnosis, treatment, prevention and cure.
Past research has resulted in improvements in the quality of life and survival rates. 1 in 9 women in the UK will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, so the research Breast Cancer Campaign funds remains crucial.
Thanks to the efforts of ASDA's colleagues and customers, the money raised has helped the charity fund 36 projects around the country, as well as 2 Scientific Fellowships.
Dr. Rob Clarke of Manchester University has been awarded a Scientific Fellowship, funded solely by ASDA, which will enable him and his team of nine scientists to discover how breast cancer develops in order to prevent it.
I am delighted to be awarded Campaign's first ever Fellowship grant. Thanks to ASDA's funding, this Fellowship will give me the opportunity to provide more insight as to why breast cancer recurs after treatment and will lead to the development of more effective ways to treat breast cancer.
